AEGEE is in The Netherlands pronounced as "ee-zjee", in the rest of Europe you'll find "ai-zjee" is the way to pronounce it. AEGEE is short for Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l’Europe. This is translated to European Students’ Forum.
AEGEE (Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l’Europe) is one of Europe’s biggest interdisciplinary student organisations. As a non-governmental, politically independent, and non-profit organisation AEGEE is open to students and young people from all faculties and disciplines. Founded in 1985 in Paris, today AEGEE has grown to a Network of 13000 friends, present in 170 cities in 40 countries all over Europe.
AEGEE-Leiden is one of the six founding locals of AEGEE and we are very proud of this! AEGEE-Europe was founded on the 16th of April 1985 and AEGEE-Leiden on the 31st of October 1985. AEGEE-Leiden has become quite a large student organization with around 270 members. Not only in Europe, but also in Leiden is a lot to do. We organize more than five trips and hitch-hike competitions a year, multiple parties (most of the time in cooperation with other student organizations), monthly a nice diner, every week different little activities and every Tuesday we have our Social Drink where you can catch up with other AEGEE-members.
