Can you tell us a little bit about yourself – who are you, where do you come from and what are your hobbies?
My name is Eszti, I’m from Szeged, Hungary but I study in Budapest. In my little free time, besides AEGEE, I enjoy travelling, learning languages, doing some sports and spending time in the nature.
How/why did you discover AEGEE?
I was looking for opportunities to spend the summer abroad, improve my English and meet new people. That’s when I found the Summer Universities on the Internet. I started reading about AEGEE and made the best decision of my life: joined the organization and applied for a SU in Groningen.
Can you sketch your AEGEE-career for us? What was your ultimate highlight within your time in AEGEE?
I became a member of AEGEE in March 2016 because of a Summer University. I enjoyed it so much and I learned a lot about the organization so I immediately decided that I want to take an active part in the organization’s life. After attending the introduction camp of AEGEE-Budapest, I joined the HR working group. Half year later I was already a Board member as the Secretary. One year later I returned to the Board as the Vice-President for External Relations.
I have participated in many local events but I also wanted to feel the international spirit. So far I have participated in an EPM, HR Training Course, SUPS, RTC, 2 NWMs, 5 Agoras (2 as visitor, 3 as delegate) and 3 SUs as a participant. I also took part in the organization of many events as a helper, besides that I was one of the organizers for our Hungarian TSU in 2017 and also for our NYE last winter. I found myself in an amazing community where I could develop myself both professionally and personally. Attending all these international events kept me motivated and enthusiastic about being part of AEGEE.
I enjoyed every single event I have attended, being a Board member, being a delegate at Agoras. However I think the highlight for me was organizing a SU, and having the chance to provide our participants the best SUmmer of their lives.
Are there any specific plans or goals (within AEGEE) you strive towards?
I don’t have any big plans at the moment but I’m always open for creating something new in our local.
Do you have a message for the members of AEGEE-Leiden?
I would say take advantage of the international opportunities that AEGEE offers. Apply for events abroad and make new friends from all over Europe. Hope to see you somewhere in Europe! :)
