AEGEE-Leiden
AEGEE-Leiden is a student society in Leiden and part of the largest student network of Europe: AEGEE. For the last few years, AEGEE-Leiden has grown fast and now there are around and about 250 members. The AEGEE network has about 14,000 student members in 240 locals. Membership for AEGEE-Leiden is possible for every HBO or university student, your study, political and religious views don’t matter. Our society is meant for students who love to travel and are interested in other cultures. Every year there are not only lots of international activities, but on local level too. Therefor, many of our members also think of AEGEE-Leiden as a normal society.
A short history of AEGEE-Leiden
On April 16th 1985, which is now seen as AEGEE’s birthday, Paris was the host city of a major Congress, ‘EGEE’. This congress was about the standstill of the European integration process. It was organised by five of Paris’s colleges and under the guidance of Franck Biancheri. EGEE was visited by no less than 700 students from the then European Community countries. During this congress, the founding of a student network, which would promote integration, was decided. The founding took place in Paris and immediately there were six cities which held the first locals: Paris, Milan Munich, Madrid, London and LEIDEN. Therefor AEGEE-Leiden is one of the six oldest AEGEE-locals. The Dies or birthday of AEGEE-Leiden is October 31st.

Contacts of AEGEE-Leiden
Besides having the highest status of official AEGEE Antenna in the AEGEE network, AEGEE-Leiden has a place in the Leidens International Platform (together with ISN Leiden, SIB Leiden, RooFS and MUN) and the association works together with the International Office of Leiden University. AEGEE-Leiden also is a member of the local chamber of assosiations (PKvV) in Leiden. Because the association is an official Antenna, some chosen delegates of AEGEE-Leiden are present at the General Assembly of the AEGEE network twice a year; the AGORA (over 1000 AEGEE members in one place!).
